Monsoon showers in Mumbai are put on hold for now
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a trusted source for weather updates, had forecasted light to moderate rainfall over the next 24 hours.
Since past few days, various parts of the city have experienced heavy rain, offering relief from the recent hot and humid conditions. The rainfall began with thunder, spreading across Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra’s capital city. Despite the heavy rains, there have been no reports of waterlogging, according to civic officials. Public transport services, including railways and BEST buses, continue to operate, although some delays have been reported in certain areas. The IMD has predicted further rainfall for Friday, expecting it to ease the city’s prevailing heat and humidity caused by the recent lack of rain.
The monsoon arrived early in Mumbai this year, on June 9, earlier than the usual June 11-12 onset. After this early arrival, the city experienced a brief dry spell, leading to increased temperatures and humidity. However, the return of the monsoon showers is eagerly anticipated to bring significant relief to the residents. The IMD’s forecast indicates a generally cloudy sky with the possibility of light to moderate rain in the city and suburbs within the next 24 hours. This prediction comes as a welcome development for the citizens, who have been enduring the sweltering weather due to the monsoon hiatus.
