Modi in USA: India-US Defence & Economic Ties Reach New Heights
The State Visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in USA promises to be a major inflection point in the bilateral and geopolitical ties of India and the United States. The Indian PM recently made a speech in the US Congress and held several meetings with influential business executives, academic scholars, healthcare and space experts as well as President Joe Biden himself. Many crucial trade and defence agreements have been announced during this visit that will take India-US ties to new heights and countering the growing Chinese threat.
General Electric, a company that designs the jet engines for the advanced American fighter jets, has agreed to share a majority of its technology with India which will help India create and manufacture its own line of Tejas fighter jets of superior quality that will not only strengthen Indian Air Force, but also make India one of the biggest defence exporters of the world. On the space sector as well, India has become a member of American NASA’s ‘Artemis’ mission, wherein US and its partners will explore our solar system and space with an aim of colonising planets like Mars.
On the trade front, India has been pushing hard for the decoupling of the economy of both India and the United States from China. This has prompted American companies like Tesla and Apple to move their operations out of China and invest and manufacture heavily in India. This will not only switch gears of Indian economy’s growth, but also reduce the world’s dependency on China. PM Modi in USA has already made several big announcements that will be pave the way for the deepening of India-US relations.
