Modi and Biden Briefly Discussed China: White House Official

PM Modi and Biden made a major stride in the India-US bilateral relations during the former’s recent State Visit to the United States at the invitation of the American President. A wide range of issues were addressed during this brief visit, but a top official from the White House has confirmed that the two leaders spent a brief period of time discussing China, as per PTI. The official noted that while tackling China is not the only mutual interest between the two countries, both Modi and Biden shared their inputs on dealing with Xi Jinping and the rising Chinese aggression under his leadership.

“In the Oval Office meeting between Modi and Biden, a plurality of that time was just spent talking about China, and the experiences they’ve had with Xi (Jinping), both knowing him for a long time trying really hard to have a relationship with him and just both essentially giving up on,” he said. The official also highlighted that India has taken much more proactive steps in countering the national security threat posed by China, citing that India has already banned Chinese apps like TikTok to protect its data. During this visit, Modi and Biden jointly announced a major transfer of technology of fighter jets from the United States to India, along with several other economic and diplomatic agreements.
