Mira Road Mob Attack: Mumbai Police Begins Major Crackdown
The Mira Road mob attack, which took place a day before Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha, came as alarming news after a Muslim mob attacked a group of people who were carrying out a peaceful procession in celebration of the holy temple’s inauguration. The mob attacked the procession in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road, which caused severe injuries to those celebrating, including women. As per sources, the mob was as big as 100-150 people who also later charged at a police van, which eventually arrived after receiving the distress call.
The news of this Mira Road mob attack soon reached Hindu groups, including the RSS, which ultimately came to the rescue of those injured. Amidst the rising communal tension, the police eventually established control over the situation and made 20 arrests in the following investigation. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took note of the incident even as the Mumbai Police probed the terror angle and the possibility of foreign funding and involvement in this case.
Another communal clash took place in the Panvel region of Navi Mumbai. A group of people who were raising slogans at a bike rally got assaulted by a mob, which triggered a response from the Rapid Action Force. The incident took place at the Kachhi Mohalla area of Panvel outside a local mosque. The investigation of both these cases continues even as the security forces remain on high alert to prevent any further clashes.
