Microsoft introduces a beta launcher for Android, with Copilot integrated into it
The Microsoft Launcher beta with Copilot integration allows users to interact with the AI directly from the home screen.
Microsoft is integrating AI deeply into its ecosystem, introducing the Copilot+ program for Windows devices and now bringing Copilot to Android through the Microsoft Launcher. Currently, in beta, users can experience this new functionality by joining the beta program or waiting for the stable release. The Microsoft Launcher beta with Copilot integration allows users to interact with the AI directly from the home screen. The Bing/Copilot button in the search widget enables chatting with the AI, while the Feed (leftmost home screen pane) now includes Copilot alongside the Glance and News tabs. Critical features of Copilot in Microsoft Launcher include:
- Effortless Access: A swipe away, Copilot provides answers and assists with content creation.
- Creative Power: Generate images and text directly from your mobile feed using simple commands.
- Pro Performance: Enhanced responsiveness and swift interaction for Copilot Pro users.
Users can input questions by typing or voice, and they can even inquire about images from their gallery. However, Copilot’s current capabilities are limited; it cannot set alarms or manage phone settings like turning off Wi-Fi. Future updates will expand Copilot’s functionality through plugins. Currently, three plugins are available:
- Search: Enabled by default.
- Instacart: Offers assistance with recipe and meal plan.
- Kayak: Helps with searching for flights, accommodations, and car rentals.
As Copilot gains popularity on Android, more plugins from other companies are expected to be developed. To try the new Microsoft Launcher with Copilot integration, download it from the Google Play Store and enroll in the Beta program. Be sure to check for updates immediately after the initial installation, as new versions are frequently released.
