India’s emerging pace sensation, Mayank Yadav, is poised to join the elite IPL ‘Million Dollar Club’ after making his T20I debut against Bangladesh. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will need to offer a minimum of Rs 11 crore (USD 1.31 million) to retain his services for the upcoming season, as per IPL retention rules. This development follows Yadav’s international debut, which elevates him to the ‘capped player’ category, drastically increasing his value. Similarly, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) must offer Rs 11 crore to retain all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who also debuted in the exact match. For IPL teams, the retention prices for capped players are Rs 18 crore (No.1), Rs 14 crore (No.2), and Rs 11 crore (No.3).
With the retention deadline set for October 31, LSG will likely retain Mayank Yadav as one of their top three players, alongside veterans like KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran, and Marcus Stoinis. An IPL insider has confirmed that LSG will unlikely release Mayank, a rare and valuable bowling talent, back into the auction pool. His potential retention is a significant investment in India’s future pace attack. However, the scenario for Nitish Reddy may differ, with SRH possibly prioritizing players like Pat Cummins, Travis Head, and Abhishek Sharma for their top retentions.
