Manipur violence: CRPF personnel on leave from the state called back to report for duty
The situation in Manipur continues to remain fragile as Indian Army and paramilitary forces continue to be deployed. The Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF) has now asked its jawans on leave to report back to duty, despite the heavily deployed security that is already present on the ground. This decision was taken after a CoBRA commando from Manipur, who was also on leave, was shot dead in his village in the Churachandpur district by armed men on Friday, as per PTI.
All the field commanders have been instructed to contact all the off-duty personnel and convey these instructions promptly. This violence began after it was decided to include the Metei community in Scheduled Tribes (ST) list. Various tribal communities have protested against this decision citing that Metei is a majority community. The situation violently escalated, and news of attacks started coming in, which prompted the Ministry of Home Affairs to deploy security forces all over the state. Internet services have also been temporarily suspended to stop this situation from escalating furthermore.
