Manipur violence: Amit Shah to visit Moreh near India – Myanmar border
Home Minister Amit Shah has visibly decided the further course of action to curb Manipur violence in his ongoing visit to the state. He will be visiting India – Myanmar’s border town of Moreh to meet Kuki civil society groups along with reviewing the security measures, as per PTI. While another violent incident took place just a day before his visit, the situation has been in control since Shah landed in state capital Imphal on Monday night. He has also met several other ethnic groups since then to broker peace between communities.
In light of the persisting fragile conditions, Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Kumar Deka and Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla will also accompany him in this trip. While there have been no reports suggesting cross-border involvement in Manipur violence, their presence have highlighted the gravity of the situation. The clashes broke out against the Metei community when they were given the Scheduled Tribes (ST) status by the judiciary despite being in the majority. Indian Army and CRPF have been deployed in the state for weeks, which have helped keep the violence under control.
