Maldives repents its actions: urges India to invoke interests in visiting again
The Maldives is urging Indians to participate in its tourism industry, stressing the economic significance amid a 42% decline in tourist visits since January. Despite recent tensions over derogatory remarks against India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal emphasized the historical ties between the two countries. He expressed the new government’s desire for collaboration. Faisal extended a warm welcome to Indian visitors, underlining the importance of their contribution to the Maldivian economy.
The appeal comes as hundreds of Indian tourists canceled trips following controversial remarks by Maldivian officials. India’s ranking in Maldives tourism charts has dropped, prompting discussions between the two nations on various issues, including defense cooperation and the replacement of Indian military personnel. Both sides are moving forward with logistical arrangements, affirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
