Malaysia Takes Legal Action Against Meta

Malaysia has joined the list of countries who have taken action against tech giant Meta for failing to remove or retaining undesirable data and content on their platform. Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission has said in a statement that undesirable content relating to race, royalty, religion, impersonation, online gambling, defamation and scam advertising has drastically increased on Facebook, according to a Bloomberg report. The statement further adds that Meta refused to take any action on this matter despite repeated requests, which drove the Malaysian authorities to take action.

There has been no response on these developments by Meta. Vietnam also took action against the tech conglomerate for failing to censor political content that were against Vietnamese interests. As a result, its social platforms had to remove 3200 posts that contained false information that violated the country’s law. Along with Meta, Twitter had also received wide criticism the same year from many countries including India, who also took action against the platform for not complying with Indian laws and failing to censor content that may cause harm to its national security.
