Commencement of Nominations for Phase One of Lok Sabha Elections 2024
Today marks the initiation of the nomination filing process for the first phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, slated for April 19. The Election Commission of India (ECI) officially issued the notification for the initial phase on March 20. Candidates are now eligible to submit their nomination papers to their respective district election officers. The deadline for filing nominations for this phase is March 27, with scrutiny scheduled for March 28 and the withdrawal deadline set for March 30.
The constituencies set for polling in the first phase on April 19 encompass a diverse array, including thirty-nine seats in Tamil Nadu, twelve in Rajasthan, eight in Uttar Pradesh, six in Madhya Pradesh, five each in Uttarakhand, Assam, and Maharashtra, four in Bihar, three in West Bengal, two each in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Meghalaya, and one each in Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mizoram, and Puducherry.
Uttar Pradesh’s pivotal eight parliamentary constituencies participating in the first phase include Saharanpur, Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Nagina (SC), Moradabad, Rampur, and Pilibhit. Meanwhile, Rajasthan’s voting constituencies on April 19 encompass Ganganagar, Bikaner, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Jaipur Rural, Jaipur, Alwar, Bharatpur, Karauli-Dholpur, Dausa, and Nagaur.
The nationwide Lok Sabha elections are set to unfold over seven phases, with the culmination of counting on June 4. The Election Commission of India unveiled the poll schedule on March 16.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Prime Minister Modi, is vying for a historic third term, aiming for 370 seats for the party and 400 for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the upcoming polls. The BJP has already unveiled two lists of candidates, featuring 265 names, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Congress party, a prominent contender, is entering the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as part of the INDIA bloc, a coalition of opposition parties.
