Key Accused Dhawal Thakkar Arrested in Connection with Gujarat Game Zone Fire that Killed 28+
Dhawal Thakkar, the main accused in the tragic fire at a gaming zone in Rajkot, Gujarat, which resulted in 28 deaths, was arrested in Abu Road, Rajasthan. The police received a tip-off that Thakkar had been hiding at a relative’s house in Rajasthan. Earlier today, a local court remanded three other men arrested for the fire to 14 days in police custody. Special public prosecutor Tushar Gokani stated that the accused claimed that the fire destroyed certain crucial documents.
An FIR was filed against six partners of the game zone. The partners, Yuvrajsinh Solanki and Rahul Rathod, who are involved with Raceway Enterprise, the operator of the TRP game zone, and the recreation centre’s manager, Nitin Jain, were arrested. According to the FIR, the accused had constructed a 50-meter-wide and 60-meter-long structure, equivalent to a three-storey building, using metal sheet fabrication to establish the game zone. Critically, they needed proper firefighting equipment and had yet to obtain the required no-objection certificate (NOC) from the local fire department.
Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi confirmed that a special investigation team (SIT) had been appointed to probe the incident further. The SIT has seized all files related to the game zone for a thorough investigation. The arrests and ongoing investigation highlight the severe lapses in safety protocols and regulatory compliance that led to this devastating incident.
