Lakshya Sen Wins Canada Open, Receives PM Modi’s Praises
Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen has clinched a major win at the Canada Open championship against China’s Li Shi Feng, marking his first title win of the year. He defeated Feng with a commendable margin of 21-18 and 22-20 in the final of the Canada Open 2023. The shuttler has remained undefeated in this tournament after defeating Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn, Brazil’s Ygor Coelho do Oliveira and Germany’s Julien Carragi. He then convincingly beat Japan’s Kenta Nishimito in the semi-finals and eventually climbed to the top after defeating Feng in the finals.
PM Modi, who has been pushing for the growth of Indian sports from the non-cricket category, heaped praises on Lakhsya Sen and tweeted, “Congratulations to the talented @lakshya_sen on his outstanding victory at the Canada Open 2023! His triumph is a testament to his tenacity and determination. It also fills our nation with immense pride. My best wishes to him for his upcoming endeavours.” Sen was also a part of the team that won the Thomas Cup in 2022 and also has a Gold Medal in the Commonwealth Games to his name.
