Lucknow Super Giants have named Karun Nair as a replacement for their injured skipper, KL Rahul, for the remainder of the IPL. Rahul was ruled out of the IPL and the World Test Championship final due to a thigh injury sustained during a game against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Karun Nair, an out-of-favor India batter, will join the franchise for Rs 50 lakh. Nair has played 76 IPL games, scoring 1,496 runs, and has a triple hundred in Test cricket.
Rahul will undergo thigh surgery on the advice of the medical team, which means he will miss the remainder of the IPL and the World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval in London from June 7. The injury occurred while Rahul was fielding during Match 43 of IPL 2023 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. Lucknow Super Giants have moved quickly to replace their captain, bringing in Karun Nair to bolster their squad for the remainder of the tournament.
