The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up for a significant transition as Secretary Jay Shah prepares to step down and take over as the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman in December. At the BCCI’s 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 29, members urged Shah to expedite finding his successor to ensure a smooth transition of power. Several candidates are in the running to succeed Shah, including Rohan Jaitley(president of Delhi and District Cricket Association), Ashish Shelar(BCCI Treasurer), Devajit Saikia(Joint Secretary), and Anil Patel(Gujarat Cricket Association secretary). The AGM focused on nominating two representatives to the ICC meetings, with Arun Singh Dhumal and Avishek Dalmia elected to the IPL Governing Council.
Other notable decisions included ratifying the annual budget for the 2024-25 season, maintaining BCCI’s legal status as a society, and resolving not to convert BCCI tournaments, including the IPL, into a company. The AGM featured a 17-minute tribute video highlighting Shah’s contributions to Indian cricket. VVS Laxman, head of the Centre of Excellence, praised Shah’s visionary leadership in establishing the National Cricket Academy campus.
