Japan PM Fumio Kishida vacated by security after bomb explosion
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida seems to have escaped an assassination attempt after a bomb exploded during his speech in a Wakayama port in Japan. Their public broadcaster NHK revealed that Fumio took cover and was safe, but he was immediately evacuated from the site. A video of the incident that surfaced on social media shows that he was about to begin his speech at the port when the bomb suddenly exploded. Everyone present ducked for cover before clearing the area.
Another report by Reuters says that the explosion was from a smoke bomb that appeared to be a pipe-like object. The security apprehended a suspect for further investigation. While there is no news yet on who was behind this blast, more details on this incident are expected to be released soon. This assassination attempt comes less than a year after Kishida’s predecessor and Japan’s former PM Shinzo Abe was shot dead during his campaign speech. State leaders from all over the world, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned this act of violence and expressed their sorrows over his death.
