Jaishankar Protrudes Diplomatic acquaintance with South Korea: partnering for Semiconductors and Nuclear advancements
During a two-day trip to South Korea, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted the growing significance of the partnership between India and South Korea, emphasizing the steady expansion of bilateral exchanges. He noted that the two countries had elevated their ties to a special strategic partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit in 2015 and commemorated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2023.
At the 10th India-South Korea Joint Commission Meeting in Seoul, Jaishankar underscored the need to broaden cooperation into new sectors such as critical and emerging technologies, semiconductors, green hydrogen, and nuclear collaboration. He expressed satisfaction with the increasing alignment of views between India and South Korea on international issues, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.
During his visit, Jaishankar held discussions with South Korean counterparts, including Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul and Trade, Industry, and Energy Minister Ahn Dukgeun. He also engaged with representatives from South Korean think tanks and discussed shared interests in the Indo-Pacific and other global matters.
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the expansion of the India-South Korea Special Strategic Partnership across various areas, including trade, investments, defence, education, science, technology, and culture. The Joint Commission Meeting aimed to comprehensively review bilateral cooperation and explore avenues for further enhancement while providing a platform for discussions on regional and global issues of mutual concern.
