French President Emmanuel Macron recently suggested halting arms deliveries to Israel, believing it could push Israel towards a political resolution in Gaza. While some countries, including Canada, Spain, the Netherlands, and Britain, have announced arms export suspensions to Israel, these nations account for less than one per cent of Israel’s total arms imports. The US, which supplies 69% of Israel’s arms, remains its most crucial ally. There are no signs of disruption in their supply chain, with Israel’s military-industrial complex significantly sustaining its defense needs.

Israel has over 150 defense companies, including Elbit Systems, Israel Aerospace Industries, and Rafael, among the top global arms producers. This capability allows Israel to absorb any external restrictions and focus on meeting domestic demands. Additionally, Israel’s culture of stockpiling war reserves ensures its readiness for extended conflicts, including the current operations in Gaza and potential threats from Hezbollah and Iran. Israel’s strategic use of resources, such as aerial bombings and limited ground offensives, further optimizes its military strength. While European nations may critique Israel’s actions, the military relationship with the US and other allies continues to reinforce its operational capabilities, making arms embargo threats largely symbolic.
