Is Barbie Sequel Under Works?
After a fairly successful first instalment, people have been speculating about the Barbie sequel and whether it is under work. Amidst the increasing rumours that claim that the makers are working towards a possible sequel, film director Greta Gerwig says that she has no such plans yet. “At this moment, it’s all I’ve got. I feel like that at the end of every movie, like I’ll never have another idea and everything I’ve ever wanted to do, I did. I wouldn’t want to squash anybody else’s dream, but for me, at this moment, I’m at totally zero,” she said.
While confirmation for the Barbie sequel is yet to be given, it appears that its parent studio Mattel has ambitious plans to create its own cinematic universe called the Mattel Cinematic Universe. Just like Marvel and DC studios, Mattel intends to create its own line of films, including Barney, Polly Pocket, Thomas and Friends and American Girl, which are already under production. Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz told Variety, “Successful movies lend themselves to more movies. Our goal is to start movie franchises.” He further stated that they were waiting to see if Barbie performed well at the box office, and now that it has done well, Mattel has decided to roll out their other franchises as well.
