INS Sumitra Saves 19 Pakistanis from Somalian Pirates
In another heroic rescue mission of the Indian Navy, its warship INS Sumitra has secured a group of 19 Pakistani nationals in the Arabian Sea region. A fishing vessel named ‘Iman’ sent a call for rescue after it was attacked by Somalian pirates, which triggered Bharat’s warship to respond. FV Iman, which was located 700 nautical miles away from the west of Kochi, was intercepted by the Indian Navy ship and the pirates were soon disarmed by Bharat’s troops. A total of 11 Somalian pirates were held captive while the sanitation of the fishing vessel took place.
The pirates were eventually released and directed to return to the Somalian coast by the officials officials in charge of INS Sumitra. The Indian Navy formally notified the government about the incident, which was eventually made public in a PIB statement on social media. Quite recently, an Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi group attacked an oil tanker MV which had 22 Bharatiya nationals and a Bangladeshi on board using missiles, which drove the Indian Navy to heighten its presence in the Arabian Sea. The ongoing Israel-Hamas war has increased maritime threats in the region, and the navy has thus deployed more warships in the region to counter them and protect Bharat’s trade and security interests.
