India denies reports of a trade talk halt with the UK
After the recent tussle between the Indian and UK governments over the breach of security in the Indian Embassy in London, recent reports in the British media have suggested that India has put a hold on trade talks with the United Kingdom. However, news agency ANI has confirmed through its sources in the Indian government that no such decision has been made. First reported by Britian’s The Times, India’s alleged decision has been denied by an Indian government official who cited that both the countries remain ‘committed’ to working towards a deal that is ‘mutually beneficial’.
Quite recently, the Indian Embassy in London faced protests from Khalistani supporters who eventually vandalized the embassy building and removed the Indian tricolor. In response to the lack of security provided to the building by the UK government, India removed the barricades outside UK’s embassy in New Delhi, thereby reducing their security. India’s foreign minister Dr. S. Jaishankar soon responded to this issue and raised a voice against the breach in security in Indian Embassy and demanded a proper reciprocation in security. Although India’s Ministry of External Affairs has been quite vocal against the violent Khalistani protests, the government has denied any strain in India and UK’s ongoing trade talks.
