Independence Day 2023: Where India Stands 76 Years After Freedom

Independence Day 2023 will be marked with grand celebrations in New Delhi and every nook and corner of the nation. But along with celebrating our freedom, we should also look at our achievements and the different areas where we urgently need to focus on to become a regional superpower, and eventually a global superpower. First and foremost, we have to understand our economic condition, as a nation’s economy is one of the biggest factors behind a nation’s strength.

Thanks to its socialist past, corruption, and policy paralysis, India was among the weaker economies in the world a decade ago. However, we have made a huge leap from the tenth biggest economy in the world to being the fifth biggest economy today. India’s GDP stands at about $3.75 trillion on Independence Day 2023; however, we have to make a much higher jump to achieve our domestic and international expectations. PM Narendra Modi has himself promised that India will become the world’s third-largest economy in his next term.

Our military might has always been a sight to behold. But the changing patterns of security threats have put us in a vulnerable position when it comes to information warfare via social media and other digital platforms. We need to be ready against threats of the future if we want to become a strong, thriving nation. Our armed forces, especially the Air Force, deserve a lot of boost to counter the combined threat of China and Pakistan. The call for ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ needs to be implemented more seriously in the defence sector by developing our own line of modern fighter jets, missiles, artillery, naval warships, and carriers, to name a few.

If India manages to push the accelerator on all these important facets of development this Independence Day 2023, we will be in a supreme position in the next decade.
