Imran Khan: “Military wants to imprison me for ten years”
Pakistan continues to remain in a fragile social and political state as former Prime Minister Imran Khan remains in custody for corruption charges. Khan has now claimed that the Pakistani Army plans to keep him in jail for ten years, with the motive of effectively ending his political career. He tweeted saying, “So now the complete London plan is out. Using pretext of violence while I was inside the jail, they have assumed the role of judge, jury and executioner. The Plan now is to humiliate me by putting Bushra begum in jail, and using some sedition law to keep me inside for next ten years.”
He further added that the military establishment would next target the PTI leadership by banning the “largest and only federal party” in Pakistan. Imran Khan believes that to ensure that there is no public reaction against this crack down, the military has ensured two things – one is to unleash terror on PTI workers and common citizens, and two, controlling the media and muzzling their voices. While he has claimed no responsibility for the violent protests, he continues his verbal attacks on the military establishment. Only time will tell how this volatile period will turn out in Pakistan.
