Samsung has expanded its SmartThings ecosystem through a strategic partnership with Hyundai and Kia, enhancing the functionality of future vehicles from these automakers. This collaboration will bring more advanced controls to the car’s infotainment systems via a native SmartThings app, offering a range of convenient features for Samsung phone users. One of the standout features is the ability to locate your car using Samsung’s Find function, even if the vehicle’s built-in tracking fails. This system uses Bluetooth LE mesh data from millions of Samsung smartphones to help track down your Hyundai or Kia vehicle. In addition to monitoring, the SmartThings app will allow you to control home appliances directly from your car.

Samsung Galaxy phone owners can also access a Quick Panel to manage essential car functions, such as air conditioning, or check the battery status of an electric vehicle (EV). The collaboration aims to introduce health-tracking features in the future, utilizing the car’s cameras and sensors. These innovations would ensure comfort for both passengers and pets by optimizing the vehicle’s internal climate. While these health-focused features are still in development, the SmartThings integration will soon be available in upcoming Hyundai and Kia models, potentially extending to older cars as well. Overall, this partnership offers a glimpse into the future of interconnected, more intelligent vehicles.
