How sedentary lifestyle is linked to lower pain tolerance
Sedentary lifestyle has gripped the younger generation like a plague, as most of them spend hours scrolling through their phones or staying seated in front of their laptops/TV screens. Their unused muscles and joints remain unstretched, which thereby reduces their body’s flexibility, endurance, and strength. On the other hand, people who are regularly active and exercise daily are mentally sound and have higher pain tolerance. But why is it that inactive people have lowered pain tolerance?
A person’s tolerance threshold for pain is highly linked to their mental endurance. Whoever exercises daily voluntarily puts their body in pain, which tests their mental and physical strength and gradually improves it. However, even basic movements can cause injuries or cramps in inactive people if done at higher intensity, which makes such people more prone to pain and weakness. For example, people who hit the gym daily and train their muscles not only experience certain bouts of pain physically but also mentally. Such people are always mentally ready to get through the pain and thus have higher pain tolerance.
People leading a sedentary lifestyle must therefore adopt exercise methods that are best suited for them. A gradual increase in intensity can drastically improve your health, flexibility, and overall tolerance in the long run.
