Home Minister Amit Shah to visit violence-stricken Manipur
India’s Home Minister Amit Shah will be taking a look at the ground situation in Manipur, which witnessed intense rioting a few weeks ago. While the armed forces have kept violence under control, the situation has not yet normalised. To decide the further course of action, Shah is visiting the state on May 29, as confirmed by Union Minister of State Home Nityanand Rai in Imphal. He further said that the HM would speak to members of all ethnic sides to resolve this issue, which was the core reason behind the eruption of violence.
The Manipur violence began after the Methei community was given the Scheduled Tribes (ST) status by the judiciary, despite being in the majority. People of other tribes protested against this decision, which eventually became violent. Home Minister Amit Shah had to deploy CRPF forces in the state after the clash became out of state police’s control. While their deployment brought the escalating situation under control, Shah’s visit is the factor that may resolve this issue once and for all. Further updates on this news are expected soon.
