Home Minister Amit Shah to Meet Manipur Tribal Leaders
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been closely monitoring the situation in Manipur and the turbulent situation between the tribal communities of the state. He recently extended an invitation to ITLF (Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum), which represents multiple Zo tribes in Manipur, to hold talks with him regarding any underlying issues within the communities to ensure that the tensions do not spread any further. Mizoram CM Zoramthanga said, “I suggested they accept the invitation. I told them that it is a good opportunity to have a face-to-face discussion with the Home Minister.”
ITLF leaders, having accepted Home Minister Amit Shah’s invitation, are expected to meet him in New Delhi soon. The ongoing Manipur clashes have claimed over 160 lives so far, with several cases of arson and damage to public and private properties. While the law-and-order situation is relatively under control in Manipur, the recent viral video showing the sexual assault and harassment of two women has again stirred up the clashes. Several rounds of discussions have been held by the Metei and Kuki community leaders, but they are yet to attain a resolution on this matter.
