Hollywood Actors agree to strike in protest against AI
After writers, it appears that Hollywood actors are also moving towards a massive strike in the near future. The biggest union of actors in Hollywood has decided to move forward with a strike against the future usage of artificial intelligence in making movies, as per The Hollywood Reporter. Out of the total 65,000 Hollywood actors members of this union, 98% of them have voted to begin the strike. This situation has thus majorly escalated from the Writers’ Guild of America, where 11,500 members continued the strike for a brief period.
Generative AI technology will make it possible for their systems to write and create ideas while also achieving visual perfection in creating on-screen characters. This will effectively replace the need for actors and writers in the future, which can potentially lead to a huge crisis in the industry. Film professionals across the world have shown concerns on this matter, while others have defended the use of AI. The technology is already being used in multiple Hollywood projects, which showcases how useful AI can be for creativity, but at the same time, it threatens to cut thousands of jobs in this field.
