GT vs PBK: Gujarat Titans beat Punjab Kings in yet another last over contest
GT vs PBK: This IPL season has seen several matches that have been played right till the final over, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. Last night’s match between Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans followed suit despite being a low-scoring match and kept fans on their toes till the last minute. Punjab batted first but failed to impress as Gujarat’s Mohammed Shami and Joshua Little dismissed their in-form openers Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhasimran early. Matthew Short made a fairly decent effort to push the scoreboard by scoring 36 runs of 24 balls with 6 fours and 1 six, before being dismissed by Rashid Khan. Their middle order followed up with mediocre individual scores thanks to Mohit Sharma’s strong efforts, but in the end managed to reach a fightable 153 runs in 20 overs.
Wriddhiman Saha and Shubhman Gill took Gujarat to a flyer start as Saha hit a handy 30 runs off 19 balls with 5 fours. While they continued to push the score with many wickets at hand, Punjab bowlers managed to keep the run rate in check as the game entered the death overs. Shubhman Gill scored an excellent 67 runs with 7 fours and 1 six, before being dismissed in the final over. Although captain Hardik Pandya failed with the bat, David Miller played a reliable innings and ultimately brought his team through the finish line along with Rahul Tewatia. Mohit Sharma was eventually given player of the year award for his excellent economy of 4.50 in 4 overs and taking two important wickets.
The next match will commence in Eden Gardens between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad. KKR are slated to be the favourites in this match, as their record shows 6 wins and only two losses against Sunrisers on this ground.
