GT vs MI : Gujarat Titans triumph over Mumbai Indians by 55 runs
GT vs MI : Last night’s match featuring GT vs MI was expected to be a close contest, but the defending champions and host team Gujarat Titans have proved themselves to be the favourites of this season as well. Mumbai Indians elected to bowl first and started off well as Arjun Tendulkar picked up Wriddhiman Saha was just four runs. However, Shubhman Gill continued his fantastic form and hit another fifty on the back of 7 fours and one six. MI spinner Piyush Chawla then clinched two key wickets – skipper Hardik Pandya, and Vijay Shankar. But Gujarat bounced back with a splendid middle-order partnership between David Miller and Abhinav Manohar, who scored 46 and 42 runs, respectively. Rahul Tewatia finished off Gujarat’s innings on a high note with his handy 20 runs in just 5 balls, bringing the scorecard to 207 runs.
In the second innings, Pandya struck early by picking up Rohit Sharma in his very first over. Thereon, Mumbai could not sustain any good partnership as Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad kept dismissing their batsmen at regular intervals. Cameron Green and Nehal Wadhera were the only ones with a decent performance, having scored 33 and 40 runs, respectively. Towards the end, Mohit Sharma tightened the noose by sending Wadhera and Arjun Tendulkar back to the pavilion. Gujarat thus recorded a huge win by beating a strong side like Mumbai by 55 runs.
Abhinav Manohar was given ‘Player of the Match’ award for his crucial performance that gave Gujarat the edge. The next match will be played between Royal Challengers Banglore and Kolkata Knight Riders.
