A mysterious new Google chipset, believed to be the upcoming Tensor G5, has surfaced on GeekBench under the codename “Google Frankel.” This listing follows recent leaks hinting at major changes for Google’s future Tensor chips, including a shift from Samsung to TSMC for production. The Tensor G5 is expected to be manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 3nm N3E process. It features a unique CPU configuration: one high-performance Arm Cortex-X4 core, five Cortex-A725 performance cores, and two Cortex-A520 efficiency cores. The CPU in the GeekBench listing aligns closely with these details, showing one prime core clocked at 3.40GHz, five performance cores at 2.86GHz, and two efficiency cores at 2.44GHz.
However, there’s a slight discrepancy in the GPU. While the leaked specs suggested an Imagination Technologies DXT-48-1536 unit, the benchmark hints at PowerVR graphics, also an Imagination Technologies product, indicating a minor difference in naming or architecture. It’s worth keeping in mind that this is likely an early version of the Tensor G5, so benchmark scores may not reflect its final performance. As Google prepares to take its chip development further with TSMC’s 3nm technology, the Tensor G5 could be a significant step forward for its in-house silicon lineup.
