Google Wallet now Routed to India
Google has introduced its new Wallet app in India, now available for download on the Play Store. Described as a “single, organized destination for fast, secure access to your everyday essentials,” the app includes features such as boarding passes, loyalty cards, event tickets, public transport tickets, and gift cards. Notably, payments are not included in this version as Google Pay continues to serve as the dedicated platform for transactions in India. To ensure a reliable and comprehensive experience, Google has initially collaborated with over 20 leading brands in the country. These partnerships include PVR and INOX for movie and event tickets, Air India and online travel platforms like MakeMyTrip for boarding passes, and brands like Flipkart, Domino, and Shoppers Stop for loyalty programs and gift cards.
The Google Wallet app is not just about convenience, it’s about versatility. It supports public transport services such as Hyderabad Metro, Kochi Metro, VRL Travels, and Abhibus, making your daily commute a breeze. Additionally, users can utilize their Android phones as corporate badges through partnerships with system integrators Wavelynx and Alert Enterprise. The app also allows users to create new passes from images containing barcodes or QR codes, such as boarding passes for unsupported airlines or parking receipts, giving you the power to manage your digital life on your terms. Furthermore, with intelligent personalization settings enabled in Gmail, such as the ability to automatically sort and categorize emails, tickets and passes received via email will automatically appear in Google Wallet for added convenience. For instance, if you receive a boarding pass for a flight, it will be automatically added to your Google Wallet, ready for your trip.
