Google Pay enables Aadhar-based UPI activation
Google Pay has come to an agreement with the National Payments Corporation of India to accept Aadhar-based UPI activation to increase convenience in creating a UPI account, according to Indian Express. However, the user needs to update their Aadhar card with their phone number that is linked to their bank account. For security and privacy purposes, Google has assured that the Aadhar information will not be stored with them but only be used while facilitating UPI activation. The digital payment platform has made a simple process for people looking to activate their UPI account using an Aadhar card.
In this process, users have to go to the Aadhar-based UPI creation option in the Google Pay app and add the last six digits of their Aadhar number. After entering the number, you will receive a six-digit OTP for verification on the number linked to your bank account. In the final step, your UPI number is created, which enables you to make digital UPI transactions and avail of its efficient services. This decision is expected to give a massive push towards digital payments in the country and rapidly increase online transactions in times to come.
