Google fastens up AI-Implementation!
Google is expanding its AI-powered search experience, AI Overviews, to India and five other countries, including the UK, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico, and Brazil
The feature provides users with a quick AI-generated summary of a topic and links to explore further at the top of search results. In India, AI Overviews will be available in English and Hindi, with additional features such as listening to search responses and toggling between languages. The rollout comes after a successful launch in the US, where AI Overviews was introduced in May. Google aims to make the feature available to over a billion people by the end of the year. The company is reimagining its search product amid competition from rivals like Microsoft and Open-AI in the generative AI era. However, the initial rollout was met with errors, such as bizarre and erroneous search responses.
Google has since implemented measures to tackle the issue, including detection mechanisms for nonsensical queries and limits on satire and humor content. The company is gradually conducting interviews, focusing on maintaining high-quality information. Testing has shown that users prefer the feature and find it helpful. In India, users listen to AI Overviews responses more often than in other countries. Google is also testing the addition of links to relevant web pages within AI Overviews, addressing concerns from web publishers about potential traffic loss. The company has seen positive results, with increased traffic to publisher sites. AI Overviews will also feature a new right-hand link display on desktop and mobile devices, enabling users to browse relevant websites while searching.
