Google shares brief on the bug that showed WhatsApp accessing Mic
Privacy and data security is among the core issues surrounding the world of technology. Since most of the world uses smartphones and the internet today, their private information and data remain under the safety net of app servers, especially social media apps like WhatsApp. Earlier this week, an engineer at Twitter shared screenshots and claimed that WhatsApp was accessing his handset’s microphone when he was asleep. This revelation came as a major concern for users around the world despite WhatsApp’s claim of having end-to-end encryption.
Google has now responded to this issue, saying that they have found the bug that creates incorrect indicators showing WhatsApp accessing the mic even when it is not. However, that has not stopped India’s IT minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar from raising this issue with the company for this “unacceptable breach of privacy,” as per Gadgets Now. Tech conglomerate Meta has responded to the government, saying that they are looking into the matter and that they have also been in touch with the Twitter employee who had made this claim. They have further reassured that WhatsApp continues to protect people’s privacy with end-to-end encryption.
