Goa CM Pramod Sawant: Need to Wipe Out Portuguese rule signs
Goa CM Pramod Sawant has made a huge statement on upholding the cultural heritage of Goa, saying that all symbols that showcase the Portuguese reign in the state should be wiped out, especially after six decades of Goa’s liberation. “After 60 years, we should wipe out signs of the Portuguese. We need to start afresh. We are celebrating the 75th year of India’s independence…how Goa should be and what Goa is going to be when India celebrates 100 years of independence, we have started thinking of it now,” he said.
He also emphasised Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj’s contribution in spreading India’s cultural roots in the state, as reported by PTI. He said, “Shivaji Maharaj and his son Sambhaji should be given credit for protecting the Hindu culture.” Goa CM Pramod Sawant had taken over as CM from his predecessor Manohar Parrikar in 2019 and was re-elected in 2022. His party BJP has been in power in Goa for over a decade, and he continues to uphold their political ground in the state till date.
