Gehlot govt announces free electricity in Rajasthan, BJP criticises move
Ahead of Rajasthan Assembly elections later this year, the Gehlot govt has announced that all households who utilise up to 100 units of electricity would be free of charge. CM Ashok Gehlot has announced on social media about this decision, citing that he has been receiving several requests from the citizens, which ultimately drove him to take this decision. According to this scheme, people who use up to 200 units of electricity per month will be eligible for free electricity.

While the first 100 units they consume will be free, the next 100 units and above will have fixed charges. In addition to this, all extra charges for fuel will be removed to provide relief during the commute. BJP’s Rajendra Rathod responded to this decision, saying that this decision by the Gehlot govt has come just ahead of the election and that they are giving free electricity after “looting” the people for 4.5 years. Congress has been recently battling an internal crisis between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot, who still do not appear to be on cordial terms with each other. As the election season begins in Rajasthan, only time will tell whether the Gehlot govt retains power or not.
