FM Nirmala Sitharaman Slams Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Panauti’ Remark
FM Nirmala Sitharaman has lashed out at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s remark on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Bharat’s World Cup loss against Australia. Gandhi called PM Modi ‘panauti’ (bad luck), which is responsible for the defeat, which has received a severe political backlash from the BJP leaders. The Finance Minister attacked Congress on this matter in a rally in Rajasthan, saying that it is their party’s tradition to abuse the PM. She also stated that that such statements cause discouragement within the athletes and the sports fraternity in the country.
She said, “It’s such a despicable comment. He is continuing the Congress tradition of calling all abusive names for the PM. Is that how sport is going to be encouraged? Is that the route through which Congress wants to encourage sports in the country?” FM Nirmala Sitharaman also noted that Bharat’s sports sector has witnessed tremendous growth under the Modi government, citing the performances of Bharatiya athletes in the Asian Games 2023, as well as the Olympics and the Paralympics. The controversy continues to escalate as both sides exchange public banters on the matter.
