Finance Ministry urged Insurance Companies to release liable monetary to the victims of Wayanad
The finance ministry has urged public sector insurance companies, including Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), to expedite the disbursement of claim amounts to victims of the Wayanad landslide and their families in Kerala
Insurance companies have initiated efforts to reach policyholders in the affected districts of Wayanad, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Thrissur, where many claims are being reported. They use channels such as local newspapers, social media, company websites, and SMS to provide contact details for assistance. The government has mandated public sector insurance companies to extend all possible support to the calamity victims, ensuring that insurance claims are processed and paid expeditiously.
LIC has been asked to disburse claims speedily under the PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana. Documentation requirements have been relaxed comprehensively to facilitate speedy dispersal of claim amounts. The General Insurance Council will coordinate with insurance companies to ensure claims are processed and paid promptly and host a portal for daily reporting of claim status. The central government and finance ministry are committed to supporting the victims of this calamity, ensuring they receive necessary assistance without delay or trouble.
