FDA issues a major warning on tailored weight loss drugs

United States’ FDA or the Food and Drug Administration has shared an alarming advisory for anyone who consumes weight loss pills. They have warned patients to keep away from compounded weight loss drugs that are made by mixing or altering the ingredients of these drugs to suits the requirements of an individual patient. The agency further stated that it does not review the safety, effectiveness, quality, ingredients and composure of these drugs and would hence dissuade people from opting for them. FDA has also received multiple reports of drug shortages due to this practice.

The agency claims that there was high shortage in Wegovy and Ozempic drugs that are used to treat diabetic patients. These drugs were reportedly being ordered and used in large numbers due to prescriptions provided to patients pursuing fat loss. The fitness industry has extensively introduced weight loss drugs to the market around the world as people continue to seek alternative solutions to keep up with their fitness. The United States accounts for a majority of these drug sales due to the growing cases of obesity and the higher pricing by drug companies.
