FBI Colluded With Ukraine to Delete Pro-Russian Accounts?
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had reportedly joined forces with the intelligence units of Ukraine to identify and delete the social media accounts that promote pro-Russian propaganda on their pages. This joint mission was highlighted by the Republican-controlled committees, who have demanded an investigation into the FBI’s role in influencing social media giants like Meta, Twitter, and Google’s parent company Alphabet, as per New York Post. This reports states that the mentioned companies had been subpoenaed by the FBI to take down pro-Russian accounts.
Quite recently, social media giants have also come under questioning for taking down content and deleting accounts during the pandemic at their will under the guise of stopping misinformation. The top executives of these companies were accused of stifling the views and posts of highly qualified doctors from Harvard and other top universities of the country during the pandemic, which ultimately became the first instances of the FBI’s role in influencing social media organisations. The Biden government has explored several non-kinetic measures of countering Russia’s attack on Ukraine, like imposing economic sanctions, but the reports claiming the internal influence of the FBI on their own social media companies amidst this conflict are now being explored as well.
