Elon Musk Calls for a Permanent UNSC Seat for Bharat
Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk has remained vocal on various global issues pertaining to geopolitics, economics, technology, and space research. He recently made a statement on X calling for Bharat’s permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). His post reads, “At some point, there needs to be a revision of the UN bodies. Problem is that those with excess power don’t want to give it up. India not having a permanent seat on the Security Council, despite being the most populous country on Earth, is absurd.”
Furthermore, Elon Musk also called for the addition of the African Union as a permanent member of the council. He added, “Africa collectively should also have a permanent seat imo.” Bharat’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, has criticized the United Nations on multiple occasions for blocking the most populous nation, which is also currently the world’s fifth-largest economy, from the UNSC. While the calls for making Bharat a permanent member are getting stronger, its resolution keeps getting vetoed by China, which is one of the permanent members besides the United States of America, Russia, the United Kingdom, and France.
