EAM Jaishankar Raises Khalistan Matter with UK Leaders
EAM Jaishankar has maintained a tough stance on Western nations harbouring separatist elements like the Khalistanis, who routinely talk against Bharat’s sovereignty. Many of these elements are based in the UK and have vocally threatened the safety of Bharat’s diplomats in the country. In his recent visit to the UK, EAM Jaishankar raised this issue with their Home Secretary James Cleverly and National Security Advisor Tim Barrow. He discussed the safety of Bharatiya diplomats in the country and the extremist and violent activities of Khalistanis during these meetings.
“We have long-standing concerns about extremist and sometimes even violent activities of various forces, including those who propagate Khalistan. We have been trying to get the government here to understand that while we as a fellow democracy certainly understand the importance of freedom of expression, and of speech, they should be on guard against the misuse of these freedoms,” he said, as per PTI. Along with Khalistani violence, EAM Jaishankar also discussed a range of security and trade-related issues with the UK’s government officials during his five-day visit to the country.
