Delhi Services Bill: Will NDA Be Able to Clear it in Parliament?

The Central government has introduced the Delhi Services Bill in Parliament, which has stirred up the opposition leaders to protest against its implementation. Union Home Minister Amit Shah himself brought this bill to the Parliament even as Aam Aadmi Party leaders raise their voice against Delhi’s Lt. Governor to order postings of senior officers in the National Capital Territory (NCT) region. However, while NDA carries absolute majority in the Lok Sabha, they will have to reach out to independent MPs for support on this matter. NDA has over 100 seats to their name but need to reach 120 votes to pass this bill.

AAP leader and spokesperson Raghav Chadha protested against the Delhi Services Bill saying, “This bill, which seeks to give overriding powers to the bureaucracy and the lieutenant governor, will replace democracy in Delhi with ‘babucracy’,” as per PTI. He further continued, “This an attack on our judiciary, which ruled in favour of the elected government. This is an assault on India’s federal structure, democracy, and constitution.” This bill is set to reach its conclusion in this Parliaments session.
