Cyclone Biparjoy: IMD Issues Red Alert
India’s western coast is bracing for the after-effects of Cyclone Biparjoy, which continues to influence the weather conditions in the country. The government has effectively deployed NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams in Gujarat, which is expected to experience extreme landfalls in Saurashtra and Kutch regions at 5 pm today, as per India Meteorological Department. A red alert has been issued by them in these areas, and citizens have been warned accordingly. The NDRF has effectively evacuated 50,000 people with the help of state officials, and the Indian armed forces have also deployed several teams in the coastal regions of the state, according to PTI.
Maharashtra’s coastal regions have also experienced high tides, which was recently visible in the southern part of Mumbai. The armed forces have been alerted to ensure that quick relief operations can be launched if emergency evacuation is required around the Gujarat coastline. While India has experienced a late monsoon this year due to the heatwave, Cyclone Biparjoy brought sudden bursts of showers around Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala, and Jharkhand. Parts of Delhi are expected to experience rainfall soon.
