CSK vs KKR : Chennai Super Kings record a huge win at Eden Gardens
CSK vs KKR : Eden Gardens in Kolkata is one of the biggest cricket grounds in the country and has a tricky bowling pitch. Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and naturally had home advantage in last night’s match, but that didn’t stop rivals Chennai Super Kings from registering massive first innings total. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway made a terrific opening partnership before Gaikwad was dismissed for 35 off 20. Conway’s tremendous form continued as he hit 56 runs with 4 fours and 3 sixes, whereas Shivam Dube also scored a fifty. However, Ajinkya Rahane took away the limelight last night as he scored an unbeaten 71 with 6 fours and 5 sixes. Their efforts brought CSK to a mammoth total of 235 runs, even though skipper MS Dhoni came to bat late in the innings.
Sunil Narine opened in the second innings with KKR keeper N. Jagadeesan, but this experiment failed as both of them were sent back to the pavilion in the first two overs. Venkatesh Iyer and skipper Nitish Rana held their ground for a short while before being dismissed by Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja, respectively. With the pressure mounting up, Jason Roy and Rinku Singh stood tough and kept the scoreboard moving. Roy was then bowled over by Theekshana on 61 runs after having smashed 5 fours and 5 sixes. Rinku Singh continued batting with the lower order and reached a commendable half-century but could not hit a winning knock.
Chennai Super Kings eventually defeated Kolkata Knight Riders with a vast margin of 49 runs as the latter finished on 186 runs in 20 overs. With this win, CSK has replaced Rajasthan from the top of points table. Ajinkya Rahane was given the ‘Player of the Match’ for his excellent knock. The next match will be played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals.
