As the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are announced, global leaders have been quick to congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party’s victory.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his readiness to work with Modi, emphasizing the shared values of human rights, diversity, and the rule of law. The results of India’s election are being closely watched worldwide due to its significant impact on regional and global geopolitics. India’s rise in stature as a leader in South Asia and its close ties with Washington pose challenges for China’s regional ambitions. Pakistan has also been affected by India’s strong defense measures against terrorism.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken praised the high voter turnout and expressed eagerness to strengthen US-India relations. European leaders like Ursula von der Leyen and French President Emmanuel Macron highlighted the importance of the EU-India partnership. From Asia, Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina, Singapore’s PM Lawrence Wong, and Japan’s government emphasized the importance of continuing strong bilateral relationships. South Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol and Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te also expressed their enthusiasm for deepening ties with India.
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy both congratulated Modi, underlining the importance of India’s role in global affairs. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and UAE’s President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan also conveyed their best wishes, looking forward to enhancing strategic partnerships. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and leaders from the Netherlands and Italy underscored the deep-rooted ties and future cooperation with India. Closer to home, Sri Lanka’s President Ranil Wickremesinghe and leaders from Mauritius, Bhutan, Nepal, and Maldives extended their congratulations, signaling strong regional support for Modi’s leadership.
This global recognition reflects India’s growing influence and the anticipation of continued collaboration on various international fronts under Modi’s renewed leadership.
