CM Dhami: UCC to be Implemented in Uttarakhand Soon
While the discussion around the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in India has picked up a strong pace, Uttarakhand CM Dhami has already made arrangements to implement the law in his state. He recently announced that the committee of experts that was formed by his government had completed the first draft of the UCC bill, which will be soon introduced and passed by the Assembly, as per PTI. He announced these developments in his tweet, saying, “As per the promise made to the people of the state, today, on June 30, the committee formed to prepare the draft of the Uniform Civil Code has completed its work. Soon #UniformCivilCode will be implemented in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand.”
This statement by CM Dhami comes soon after retired Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, who heads the panel of experts, said that the draft was near completion and would soon be presented to the government. In his recent public rally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke about the importance of the Uniform Civil Code, hinting at its implementation across the country. Reports have been emerging ever since, which state that the first draft of the Uniform Civil Code will be introduced in the upcoming monsoon session of the Parliament.
