China Demanding Respect over the South China Sea!
China has called on India to respect its sovereignty claims in the contested South China Sea following India’s endorsement of the Philippines’ sovereignty stance. The dispute between China and India has intensified, with China also asserting its claims over Arunachal Pradesh, which it refers to as Zangnan.
Lin urged India to acknowledge the reality of the situation in the South China Sea, respect China’s sovereignty and maritime interests, and recognize the efforts of regional nations in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The statement from China came in response to remarks made by Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during his official visit to Manila, where he expressed India’s support for the Philippines’ sovereignty. Jaishankar highlighted the importance of adhering to UNCLOS 1982 and reiterated India’s backing for the Philippines’ national sovereignty.
Tensions in the South China Sea have escalated, with multiple countries, including the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, and Taiwan, contesting China’s claims. The focus of recent contention has been the Second Thomas Shoal, where both China and the Philippines assert their sovereignty. China complained to the Philippines, alleging the deployment of vessels to a grounded warship. In response, the Philippines accused Chinese coastguards of obstructing their operations.
