China blocks discussions around Pakistan’s ongoing political crisis among its own citizens
Pakistan has been going through internal turmoil ever since former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s arrest, and China is censoring all discussions on this issue in its own country. As a routine, China blocks discussions that can create any criticism towards the government, but it is unusual for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to prevent its citizens from discussing internal issues of other countries. All hashtags about Khan’s arrest that were trending on China’s social media platform Weibo were removed by the government, according to The Print.
Experts believe that one of the main reasons behind this action is to avoid their citizens from directing any criticism towards the Chinese government and its decision to invest billions of dollars in Pakistan and give heavy loans to them. In addition to this, The Chinese Foreign Miniter had also recently shown support towards the Pakistani Army amid civilian protests against military interference in Pakistani politics. China blocks discussions and prosecution of Pakistan-based terrorists and terror organisations as well, which has invoked India’s dissent and added fuel to this rivalry. All these factors have together prompted the Chinese establishment to block all discussion around Pakistan among its citizens.
